Leadership Recognition

“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”

Students

Students are actively involved in all aspects of school life. They organize assemblies, friendship circle groups, yearly food bank drive, and fundraisers. Their ideas and suggestions are incorporated into our yearly planning. As well, older students act as reading buddies, noon and bus monitors, lunch helpers, etc. for younger students.

Staff

In addition to the excellent support they provide in the classroom, our staff provides the following extracurricular activities for students: basketball, soccer, EarthCARE Club, drama, cross-country running, and choir. A school-wide shared resource system was set up to make resources available to all teachers. Our staff is involved in the “Professional Learning Communities” initiative in order to enhance both student learning and staff performance. Staff members participate in Board-wide, as well as personal and professional development activities.

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Parents are actively involved in the school on a daily basis. They serve as classroom volunteers, organize a milk and hot lunch program and in addition to the many fundraisers they plan for the school they have also organized a Fun Fair, family events, and fundraisers such as Terry Fox Run and Jump Rope for Heart. Last year, our volunteers contributed over 400 hours of support to benefit the students in our school. Our dedicated School Council meets monthly and has contributed over $10,000 to purchase gym equipment, music equipment, classroom computers and fund field trips and presentations at the school. They totally funded the purchase of computers for each classroom. Their contribution to the school in both time and money truly enhances the educational experiences of the students and staff.

Community

We consider our school to be the hub of the community and, as such, have been involved in many joint ventures with community groups. Our School Council planned a Family Fun and Safety Fair, jointly with the Richmond Village Association and the Public Health Department. Many of the special events planned by our School Council are open to the community. Our students actively participate in the Richmond Fair and are represented at the local Remembrance Day Ceremony. Community members are invited to attend special events, monthly assemblies, and leaving ceremonies. Our school events are regularly featured in the local newspaper.
